Each day every group is asked to think and reflect on the work they have been doing. Some questions we have asked students to consider and some responses are listed here:
What is service?
- Service is giving back to a person, group or community
- Assisting others, empathy, care, kindness
- Thinking about others not yourself
- Volunteering
What is compassion?
- Showing someone else you care
- Doing something for someone else
- Compassion is doing something for others without expecting a reward
- Compassion is empathy towards others and a want to serve others
- The act of giving things to other people who are less fortunate than others
- Caring
- Giving to someone who is in need
How can we show compassion to other people?
- Helping
- By donating to compassion programs
- Being kind and helpful
- By doing things for others
How will the work you are doing have a positive effect on others?
- So the community will know what we are doing (This response from a Stop the Press member)
- By allowing others to see many ways of serving others
Why is it important to serve others, particularly those who are in need?
- You should treat others the way you want to be treated
- So that their lives are easier
- It is essential that we are all there to support one another
- It gives a sense of equality and feeling loved and being equal to others
- To make someone happy
How do you feel about working with peers outside your year and social group? Has it been an enjoyable experience? Have you made new friendships?
- It's good because you get to meet new people. It has been a fun and enjoyable experience
