Day One: Secret Garden

Reflection time before setting off for a hard day's work.

Task: Help with gardening and landscaping at the New Secret Garden site.

In the Secret Garden activity you assist people who have a disability with their garden and backyard maintenance. Most students who volunteered to work in the Secret Garden group enjoy working in gardens and enjoy the fact that they are helping people who are less able to do things like gardening on their own and making their lives easier by helping them out.

Everyone in the group seemed to love working with their friends whilst they worked to help others.

“Working in gardens is actually quite fun” – Josh

Students that we interviewed said that they would choose Secret Garden next year during the Service Days.  We asked the students to give some advice for students who chose Secret Garden next year and they said to bring a lot of sunscreen and comfortable clothes and not to forget water. You should also choose Secret Garden if you like working out in the garden to help other people.
