Day One: Cookies for Christmas

Task: Make cookies and biscuits for distribution to the homeless. These will be decoratively packaged and given to people who may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift.

The Food Technology classroom was full of cookies because students from Years Seven to Nine were busy baking and decorating cookies for the organisation Hawkesbury Helping Hands. This organisation sends cookies to homeless people who are living in poverty.

About twenty students are involved in baking, decorating and packaging the cookies. We interviewed two students and they both said that they were very happy to be baking cookies for a good cause.

One of the students we interviewed felt very happy that he could spend his three service days cooking for a great organisation and such a worthy cause.

A volunteer from Hawkesbury helping Hands came into the College to speak about the organisation and how participating in service can have a positive impact on many people. We think this a great way to show kindness towards less fortunate people.
