Day One: Mountains Makeover

The task: Help the people of St. Alban’s church by cleaning out church resources and facilities, undertaking small maintenance jobs, gardening, painting and other enhancement projects.

Hard at work in the grounds of St. Alban's Leura
After two hours in transit from Rouse Hill consisting of a minibus, two trains and a short walk (is there a movie title in there somewhere), we arrived at St Albans Anglican Church in Leura. We met the Olliffe's and were briefed on our goals and objectives for the next three days. Mrs Olliffe explained the importance of service and why we serve. With a storm looming in the distance we decided to get out into the church grounds and get some work done before the storm made outside work impossible. We spent some time gardening and weeding at the front of the church and we are planning to tackle an overgrown area at the back of the church on day two.

So what do the boys think of the experience so far?

“It's a good and fun experience, especially with your friends.”

“Serving make you feel better about yourself, knowing you are helping others who are in need.”
